Cozy House Slippers — for the Barefoot Shoe Lover

November 28, 2022
Cozy Barefoot House Slippers - Softstar Fireside Slippers

When you need your feet wrapped up in warm socks or cozy slippers all day long in the winter, make sure they’re good for your feet too! Check out this list of warm barefoot slippers.

It’s winter time and even with the heater on indoors, my feet still get cold without a warm pair of slippers or socks. While most slippers and socks aren’t as narrow and restricting as many conventional shoes, you’ll still find toe boxes that are too tight and small heel lifts in many slippers.

When looking for house slippers that are good for your feet, just keep in mind the same qualities that you look for in shoes:

  • Wide, anatomically-shaped toe box
  • Soles that are thin, flat and flexible
  • Attach securely to your feet (if you’re going to be walking in them often, I recommend getting ones that are not backless slip-ons that can change your walking gait.)

There are a lot of great options out there and every year I see dozens of cute fuzzy slippers in store, and I definitely haven’t tried all of them. These are just a few brands I’m familiar with that consistently follow barefoot qualities.

You can find foot-friendly slippers at many large retailers too. Just check using them for the features above! For a list of foot-friendly socks with a wide toe box, see these posts for adult socks and kid socks.

Cozy Barefoot Slippers

Softstar Fireside Slippers: $145 | Super cozy sheepskin leather and fleece. I recommend sizing down (I’m wearing a 5U based on my 23.3cm foot measurement). See detailed review here.

Softstar Merino Zen Moccasin: $125 | 100% merino wool upper. Rubberized fabric sole.

Lems Drifter Fur Slippers: $100 | These wide toe box slippers are the lined version of Lem’s Drifter slip-ons. Thanks to the rubber sole, these are a great option if you plan to wear your slippers outside. With the styling, they look like a classic men’s barefoot slipper.

Wildling Shoes Slippers:

  • Lotus Slippers: $59 – $99  | Felted wool uppers and Wildling’s thin and flexible rubber sole with a higher top. Shop Wildling US or Wildling International.
  • Nelus Slippers: These are the low-top version also using the same felted wool and rubber soles as the Lotus slippers. I like that these are more “slip-on,” but with too loose of a fit on these, they do become floppy. I wear these in my typical Wildling size of EU38 plus thicker socks for a secure fit. If you plan to wear without socks, you may want to size down.

Be Lenka Chillax Slippers: $89-$99 | Felted uppers and rubber sole. These come in a slip-on option and an ankle-cut version. Obviously the backless slip-on isn’t ideal for barefoot, so if you’re going to be wearing them at home all day, the ankle-cut version is a better option.

FeelBarefoot on Etsy: $82. Nubuck leather outer, lined with sheep fleece. Use code KELLY50 for 50% off original listed price.

Vivobarefoot Felt Slipper: $95 | These are 100% wool felt slippers with a soft leather sole. Handmade in Mongolia. Code KELLY10 for 10% off at Vivobarefoot.

Kyrgies Wovens: $89. Kyrgies are thick wool yarn woven into a slipper by a  women’s cooperative in Kyrgyzstan. They have several slipper styles, but for the most foot-friendly option, go for the Woven. The bottoms are lined with suede and plenty cushy.

Manitobah House Moc: $80 | Cowhide suede uppers and sole. Lined with faux shearling. Manitobah also has the Street Moc with a rubber sole, though the toe box doesn’t look as roomy.

Smartwool Hudson Trail Slipper: $75 | Knitted wool uppers. Nylon sole and grippers.

Xero Shoes Slippers: $70 | Xero Shoes has two options that work well as barefoot slippers. The Pagosa is faux-wool house slipper while the Sunrise is super lightweight and made more for everyday (not just cold weather). Both have a collapsible heel and rubber sole.

Bombas Gripper Slippers: $45 | Thick lined slipper socks with grippy bottoms.

Quince Gripper Slippers: 2-pack: $40 | Fleece-lined gripper slippers

Muk Luks Slippers: $20 on Amazon | Wool knit uppers with soft sole.

Vivobarefoot Mim Felt Slipper: $55 | Starting at size EU27 | These are 100% wool felt slippers with a soft leather sole. Handmade in Mongolia. Code KELLY10 for 10% off at Vivobarefoot.

Bombas Youth Gripper Slippers: $45 | Starting with size US Toddler 11 | Thick lined slipper socks with grippy bottoms.

Target Cat & Jack Slipper Socks: $5.99 | These slipper socks are super cute, warm, and very affordable. They have a nice squared toe box and grippy dots on the bottom.

ShooShoos Toddler Slippers: $25 | Code KELLY10 for 10% off | These toddler slippers are made with suede and fully lined with wool. They have wide toe box (almost square) that’s made for toddler feet! They also have a wide opening that makes it easy for a toddler to put them on themselves.
