Let’s see if just changing my shoes (wide toe box ones, of course), and my sweater can create a whole different look!

Here are the shoes I’m wearing:

BeLenka Nimbus | $150 | KELLY5 for 5% off | These puffy slip-ons are different than most barefoot shoes I see, and look a little bit like a slipper. While most of BeLenka’s barefoot shoes are very flexible, the soles felt more like their Barebarics line in terms of the thickness and stiffness. I’m an EU38 in these based on my 23.3cm foot measurement (it’s the size I wear in most barefoot shoes).

Flux Runners | $140 | I’d classify these more as a wide toe box running shoes vs a barefoot shoes. They have a nice wide toe box and are zero-drop, but have a 30mm stack height, a significant toe spring, and not a lot of flexibility. They can be a good option if you’re just starting to run in barefoot shoes. I’m a W’s US8 in the Flux Runners.

Ruby Barefoot Leather Boots | $110 with code KELLY35 | These lightweight leather boots handmade in Turkey. They come in six colors, and have a side zip that makes them easy to get on. The sole is about 6mm; it’s a somewhat stiffer than some of the most barefoot options, but doesn’t feel restrictive when I’m wearing them.

These are 5 barefoot Chelsea boots I’ve been wearing recently

Lang.S Luna boots: On sale for €105, these Chelsea Boots are a classic style with camel-colored goat leather uppers and a 6mm rubber sole with a 2mm insole. I wear an EU37 based on my 23.3cm foot measurement.

Lems Chelsea Boots: These are a cushier, more rugged waterproof option. If you want ones with better grip, opt for the Tuff version. I went up 1/2 size on the waterproof version for a size US8.

Feelgrounds new all-cream Chelsea boots: These are a vegan leather that doesn’t feel too shiny or fake. I wear these in an EU38. Use code KELLY5 for 5% off.

Shapen Victory boots: These have a taller shaft that feels more on trend, and pretty practical as they keep your ankles warmer. I have these in an EU37, which is my typical size in Shapen sneakers and unlined boots.

Groundies Cozy Boots - These aren’t technically a Chelsea boot, but a super warm short boot that I’ve been wearing as basically a slipper/UGG replacement. They’re lined with wool; I added an extra wool insole to make them warmer and help with fit. I have these in an EU39, but next time I wouldn’t size up (they’re a little loose, hence adding the extra insole).

Here’s my hot take on conventional shoes like these — they’re like cigarettes, in that they should come with a Surgeon General’s warning.

We don’t wait for people to get lung cancer to warn them about smoking.

So we shouldn’t wait until people have bunions, plantar fasciosis, or chronic pain to talk about what narrow, tapered toe boxes, heavily cushioned soles, and high heel-to-toe drops are doing to their feet and body.

It’s not about taking away your choice—it’s about making sure you know the risks. Wear whatever you want—but wear it informed.

And as for me, I’ll be wearing barefoot shoes.

Plantar Fasciitis (as it’s often called), is one

Plantar Fasciitis (as it’s often called), is one of the most common foot problems out there—affecting 1 in 10 people at some point in their lives.

It’s also commonly misunderstood, with many people still thinking that it’s an inflammation of the plantar fascia. However, a 2003 study that examined biopsies of plantar fascial ligaments on people with severe foot pain didn’t find inflammation. They found microtears and dead tissue. The better term is Plantar Fasciosis.

We know the body is complicated, and there rarely is a simple solution, or even a one-size-fits-all solution. But, it’s important to understand what we’re actually treating, and how our choices in footwear can play a big part in triggering this process of tissue degeneration.

I’ve talked with so many people that have experienced a significant improvement in their foot pain by getting out of conventional shoes, and transitioning to barefoot shoes that allowed for natural toe alignment and full movement.
